Mount Merapi Jeep Experience

🛑 1. Bunker Kaliadem

4 km from the volcano's summit. When the weather is clear, this spot offers stunning close-up views of Mount Merapi. The abandoned bunker tells stories of past eruptions and failed escapes.

🛑 2. Gendol Cliff (Tebing Gendol)

A dramatic lava cliff created by the eruption. Here, you'll witness local activity—dozens of trucks and workers mining volcanic sand and stones daily.

🛑 3. Museum "Sisa Hartaku" (My Remaining Belongings)

Visit a powerful museum that tells the story of the 2010 eruption. See burnt remains of homes, melted objects, and emotional photographs. Learn about "wedhus gembel", the deadly hot cloud that changed lives forever.

💦 Optional Add-on: River Splash Adventure (Medium Route)

Want to add more excitement? Drive through a shallow river and feel the splash! Extra fee: IDR 100,000 per Jeep. Payable on-site. Duration slightly longer (approx. +30 minutes). The short route is already fulfilling, but the river crossing adds more fun for adventurous guests!

⏳ Timing Advice

To get the best views of Mount Merapi’s peak, we recommend starting from your hotel in Yogyakarta at 07.00 AM. The latest departure should be 08.00 AM, as fog often covers the volcano after 09.00 AM.

Clear views of Merapi’s peak are not guaranteed, as it depends on unpredictable weather conditions. However, mornings generally offer a better chance for clear skies compared to midday or afternoon. That’s why we strongly recommend starting early.
Optional river splash ride (+30 mins) — IDR 100.000 per Jeep, an extra charge applies.
Limited Access to Borobudur’s Structure: Only 250 visitors per hour are allowed to climb to the top of Borobudur. Advance booking is highly recommended. If structure tickets are sold out, the last option is to buy a Temple Ground ticket on-site at Borobudur. Do not purchase Temple Ground tickets online, as they are non-refundable.
Once your booking is confirmed, I will immediately send you the official website link to book the Borobudur’s structure ticket. There is only one official website for this ticket, which I will share with you.
Especially for Borobudur, since the outbreak of Covid 2020, there have been new regulations; everyone must follow the system. People who climb to the summit of Borobudur will automatically and obligatorily be guided by a local guide who speaks English and who shares it with other visitors. External guides or drivers are not allowed to work inside the temple.

We cannot guarantee clear views of the summit due to unpredictable weather. However, early morning (before 9 AM) usually offers the best chance for clear skies.

Yes, for attractions with limited availability such as Borobudur Temple Structure, Borobudur Sunrise, and Ramayana Ballet Show in Prambanan, we recommend booking your tickets online in advance. We will provide the official links and instructions to help you reserve them. For Jomblang Cave, it is also limited but we will personally contact the staff to check availability and assist you with the reservation.

There is no strict dress code and you do not need to bring a sarong. However, we recommend wearing modest and comfortable clothing (e.g. covering shoulders and knees) out of respect for the sacred sites.

Yes, the Jeep ride is generally safe for most ages. However, we do not recommend this tour for guests with serious back problems or limited mobility, due to the off-road terrain.
